NGC 1850 is a young double cluster in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). The surrounding gas, the N103 nebula, was most likely formed following several supernovae. NGC 1850 is the brightest cluster of stars in the LMC after those found in the 30 Doradus nebula.
The main cluster is around 50 million years old and the smaller cluster (below and right of the main cluster) is 4 million years old. The smaller cluster contains hot OB-class blue stars and reddish stars still in their early T-Tauri stage of evolution. The image was composed from five HST archive images dated between 1994 and 1996.
